06 Jul National Salute tonight from the Merrill City Band
What do Briq’s, Culver’s, Cup ‘n Cone, and Dairy Queen all have in common besides scrumptious treats? They all donate coupons for free ice cream to the participants of the weekly city band kiddie parade through Normal Park. Youngsters can join in the fun at the gazebo tonight beginning at 7 p.m., as guest director Michael Chula leads the band in “National Salute,” a tribute to America. Just because the 4th of July is over doesn’t mean you can’t still enjoy some great patriotic music. Local veterans will be on hand to post and retire the colors.
A little “Yankee Fanfare,” the “Stars and Stripes Forever” and much more are on the program. As always, the 50/50 raffle will be in high gear, along with the opportunity to take home some great gift certificates donated by Merrill area businesses. And don’t forget to bring a little change to support HAVEN by purchasing some popcorn, lemonade, trail mix, or hot dogs.
Next Wednesday, join the city band for “From Rags to Riches,” featuring a vocal quartet in a tribute to Irving Berlin, along with other “riches” and some great ragtime music.
The band is also adding a concert to its series, on Wednesday, Aug. 10, at the Cenotaph Park. Butch’s Good Times will be back to provide pre-concert entertainment. Mark your calendars to help celebrate Merrill’s west side! Stay tuned for more to come about this 1st
